Scenes that do not have this impact are too long (and can feel boring) or do not make enough of a connection to the scenes preceding them (and thus can seem shallow and uninteresting). The ideal scenes advance the plot at just the right pace, like dominoes falling in a cascade.
A domino has an identity-bearing side that is a grid of squares with varying arrangements of dots, known as pips, and a blank or identically patterned side. The pips are painted or engraved to identify the domino as either a single, double, or triple.
Dominos are traditionally made of bone, silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother of pearl), ivory, and a dark hardwood such as ebony, with contrasting black or white pips. In recent times, sets have been made from a variety of natural materials including stone (e.g., marble, granite, and soapstone), other woods (e.g., hickory and oak), metals (e.g., brass or pewter), and ceramic clay.
Most domino games are played by one or more players. Each player plays a domino in turn according to the rules of the game being played. If a player cannot play a domino, he must “knock” or rap it on the table to pass play to the next player. The object of the game is to be the first player to play all of his dominoes. If a player can no longer play a domino, he must declare that he has none left and the game is over.
